What Is 70 Volt?
70-volt systems are the preferred choice when you need to install multiple speakers. Here’s why they offer advantages over 8-ohm systems.

Simplicity of Wiring
Connecting speakers in a 70-volt system is straightforward. You wire all the positive terminals of the speakers to the positive 70-volt terminals of the amplifier, and the negative terminals connect similarly.

Matching Speakers
It’s easy to match speakers with the amplifier. For instance, with a 150W 70V amplifier, you can install speakers totaling around 120 watts. Whether it’s 12 speakers at 10 watts each or 24 speakers tapped at 5 watts each, the flexibility is unmatched.

Customization via Tapping
Each speaker has a selector switch (the “tap”) on its rear. This limits the watts the built-in transformer allows the speaker to receive from the amplifier. In a restaurant, you can customize sound levels—for example, 6 watts for dining room speakers, 3 watts for hallway speakers, and 1.5 watts for bathroom speakers.
